Mission Statement

The relevance of the book Killjoy extends beyond Rollie Powell's story. The driving force behind the writing of the story is the message that child sexual abuse is a reality that threatens our children on an ongoing basis. Sporadic awareness raising efforts have not been successful in minimizing or preventing our children's exposure. The author and collaborator of the book are both committed to promoting awareness and understanding through speaking engagements and presentations.

Speaking Engagements:

Collaborating author, Rollie Powell and writer, Corine Quarterman, are both experienced public speakers. Powell has an Associate degree in Criminal Justice. He initiated and taught the Sexual Prevention Program in Rutland's elementary school system, and took the lead in organizing the County's Advocacy Team. During his active duty with Rutland's Department of Criminal Investigation, he lectured frequently before police recruits and groups of parents. His work has earned him national and local awards.

Rollie Powell's background in law enforcement with his chosen specialty in child sexual abuse, qualifies him as an expert in his own rights. Powell is best equipped to address professional audiences, with a particular focus on early recognition, prevention, teaching and training.

Quarterman is a consultant and has been active as a lecturer and seminar presenter for two decades. She was a regular contributor and writer for the Rutland Business Journal and Prime Time Journal, and writes travel articles for the Latin America Journal.

Corine Quarterman is an advocate with passion and a mission to empower parents and victims. More than ten years research and an archive of information have armed her with the knowledge to address general audiences on the topic of child sexual abuse awareness and prevention.

Presentation Themes:

In addition to their commitment to awareness raising, the authors believe there is a lot of work to be done. We encourage participation in prevention particularly in the following areas:

Nationwide registry and tracking of offenders

          Tracking of unconvicted offenders

Mandatory background checks before licensing of all professionals involved with children

Ongoing background checks of professionals involved with children

          Mandatory school prevention programs

Adequate specialists in local and state police departments

          Raise consent ages

          Hotlines specifically for children
